1986: Unintended Acceleration AllegationsIn 1986 people in the United States featured who had sued Audi after their Audi 5000 suffered from unintended acceleration. The unintended acceleration had linked to six deaths and 700 accidents between 1982 and 1987.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation found that most unintended acceleration cases were by driver error. A mild defect found in the idle stabilizer system caused only a minor acceleration and panic in the driver, contributing to the severity of the incident.
The Beginning of Audi’s Modern EraAudi’s Modern Era was technologically advanced and innovative. In the 1980s, they launched the world’s first four-wheel drive sports coupe with a turbocharged Quattro engine. They shortened the name to Audi AG, where they shifted towards the luxury market.
