Maybach is a German luxury vehicle brand that is now owned by Mercedes-Benz. Wilhelm Maybach and his son Karl Maybach formed the first firm in 1909 as a subsidiary of Luftschiffbau Zeppelin GmbH, and it was known as Luftfahrzeug-Motorenbau GmbH until 1999.

Diamler-Benz purchased Maybach in 1960. In 2002, the name was revived as an independent ultra-luxury car brand, with critical components shared with Mercedes-Benz vehicles. Maybach ceased to be a distinct brand in 2013, and it became a sub-brand of Mercedes-Benz in 2015, which is owned by the Mercedes-Benz group. Daimler will create an ultra-luxury model of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class under the Mercedes-Maybach brand beginning in 2021. Mercedes-Maybach is thus the second sub-brand in the Mercedes-Benz brand universe, following Mercedes-AMG. It is intended for the most discerning buyer, providing both prestige and exclusivity.
